Bowel cancer screening

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month and the charity Bowel Cancer UK has launched the #KnowTheHigh5 campaign to raise awareness of the red flag symptoms of the disease.

Watch the brand new video and hear about what to look out for.

Take the #KnowTheHigh5 quiz and be in with a chance to win one year’s supply of Andrex® standard toilet paper rolls.

NHS bowel cancer screening is available to everyone between the age of 50 – 74 years of age.

Visit the NHS website here for further information on bowel cancer screening

However, if you are experiencing symptoms please consult your GP who will offer you a  home test kit, called a faecal immunochemical test (FIT), to collect a small sample of poo.   Please return the completed test kit to the surgery.  We will send it to the Lab at the hospital and it will be checked for tiny amounts of blood.    The practice will contact you as soon as we have the results.

This video explains the FIT test, when it has been given to you by your doctor to help to investigate symptoms that you may be having.
